Introduction

Born in 1971, FedEx was conceived as a way to transport cheques around the US more quickly. The company’s first international flight took place in 1975 and they went public in 1978. As of 2018, FedEx Express had a 634-aircraft fleet and over 400,000 employees worldwide.

FedEx, in full Federal Express Corporation, formerly FDX Corporation, American package-delivery company that is a subsidiary of the American multinational corporation FedEx Corporation. Formed in 1971 by Frederick W. Smith, the company became known for its overnight shipping services and pioneering tracking system.

As of December 2018 it had achieved an 80% market share of all air freight shipments in the United States. It ranked as number 19 on the Fortune 500 list in 2018, making it one of only 25 companies to appear each year on that list since its first publication in 1955. It has also been consistently ranked as one of America’s most admired companies.

FedEx started as a small business but since then it has grown enormously to become one of the world’s largest companies.

FedEx began in 1971 with a single airplane, a leased DC-3. The purpose of this aircraft was to carry packages between two cities, Memphis and Los Angeles. Since then, FedEx has grown into an international delivery company servicing over 220 countries around the globe and operates over 400 aircrafts that fly more than 400 million miles per year delivering packages across the globe every day.

FedEx is a shipping company that offers customers the ability to ship their packages overnight and with tracking. The company also provides international services by air and ground. FedEx has expanded from its humble beginnings into a multinational corporation, with offices all over the world and a presence in more than 220 countries.
